I am using the latest version on Joomla 3.34 site. In deference to Patrick, I am going to be asking my questions one at a time, topic by topic, for the benefit of others.
We don't want or need thumbnail images to be generated. I have looked and looked in the settings and options for where to turn this off. It just makes for clutter and is of no use in our case. Please direct me?
Thanks,
-Jim Gribble

Hi Jim,

Just deleting the thumbnails does not harm the system. You will see some side-effects when these images are deleted.
For example, when you edit the F2C Article, you don't see the previous uploaded images for the image and image gallery fields anymore. Your browser will show a "missing image" icon (each browser handles this different), but F2C will still work!

What I meant was that I can't just simply remove the code that generates these thumb images, since it will affect the system in too many places.

best,
Julien

Thanks for explaining. I'm still not sure myself at this point how to set it up so that I see the images in the article but that's fine for now. We have a nice, clean, simple article upload interface which allows unskilled users to add text into a category and images to a file folder. I realize much more is possible and will keep on learning and reading. But we are always going to be held back somewhat because these users are VERY unskilled and even hostile to technology.

Well I wouldn't be using them in articles. We have a different way for that. So you are saying that these images are for the back end somehow and essential? And I shouldn't delete them?

Hi Jim,

The thumbnails are an important part of the system and the control itself (for showing previews).
Turning them off would have such an impact on the image handling mechanisms that it would require an entire rewrite of the images fields.

Unfortunately, this is something that I won't change.

best,
Julien

I think it's a good idea. Is there a script hack that would work in the meantime? This is part of why image management is going to be so difficult. All the auto-generated subfolders are confusing; and I've had an instance of actual auto copy of images from the parent folder into one of these auto-generated subfolders. Is there anything that be done to stop that from happening? I feel like the component is in charge or me instead of the other way around.

This is currently not supported but seems like a logical request. Your the first who has asked but I am sure Julien can develop this in a next release.

Regards,
Patrick
Please read the F2C documentation before asking questions! Thank you if you've done so ;)
