Migration 2.59 to 3.6 doesnt work with the migration tool. I have tried now many times. At hte end of the day I used another vData, that did the job. Everything is where it is supposed to be and the tables should be conform 3.6.

Hi there Patrick, Julien,
I have not been able to solve some problems after I moved to 3.6, in fact the content all seems fine, cat ids are also matching. However it seems I cannot refresh any of the articles withour running into the Invalid parent ID issue. The error report shows this. I have executed all the usual tricks and quick fixes, such as rebuilding, opening closing all cats and then rebuild and adding ACL asset component and diagnosing the problem. I in fact do not have problems in the assets table, at least this is what I am seeing. i went into the catagory table in the new database and check cat id's and compared them to parent ids and there everything seems fine. Can you please help me out here before I go mad.
Thanks,
Elisabeth

Hi there,

It was still a mess. I uninstalled basically everything but still I got fatal errors. Some tables were not the same. Quite a few plugins didnt uninstall well, left mess all over the place, manifest files missing, empty folders left, not deleting from the database. Thats just meant I had to do a lot of work with MySql before I got some kind of a result. Form2Content is one of the good components becauset hat stayed put, I didnt need to uninstall and so far so good.
The only problems seem to be cache related. The modules can't be edited at times and in Chrome the save and edit buttons don't work at all. I hope I get those last two ironed out.

If you have any clues how to fix the last two, I'd be much obliged.
Thanks,
Elisabeth

Hi Elisabeth,

I don't know why you used the migration tool. You can simply install F2C Pro for Joomla 3.x after you have migrated Joomla from J2.5 to J3.x.
http://documentation.form2content.com/f2c-getting-started/117-form2content-for-joomla-3

I would suggest you first upgrade to the latest Joomla 2.5.x. If your version is 2.5.9 it's very old!! There where many important updates in between and I believe that for the Joomla migration itself to work you needed one of the latest 2.5 versions.

Patrick

Hi there,
I didnt use the migration tool. In fact Julien told me the only way to ugrade was through the migration tool. There for I tried to use it but it didnt work. I downloaded a clean 3.6 version in a different (closed) area of my website. By the way I must have made a mitsake in noting the version number. My admin actually states. "You already have the latest Joomla! version, 2.5.28." I know its old but its the latest 2.5 version. So now I am still a bit stuck. I could just migrate to 3.0 from the 2.5 version but I'm thinking its not going to go smoothly...dunno why I think that.
Do you think I am a bit paranoid? :D

1) Backup or run on copy of the J2.5.x website
2) Upgrade to Joomla to 3.6 using the Joomla upgrade mechanism
3) Run the latest F2C Pro installer for Joomla 3.x
4) Open the content type config to check settings
5) Try a refresh on an article

A quick forum search showed this topic. It seems that the invalid parent ID is a Joomla issue. It also has the solution.

Yes I saw that post but that didnt work for me, which is a pity. It all looks like it should work but I guess someone really has to dive into the database to figure out why that isnt working for me. It would definitely be the way to go for me and much less trouble.

I followed your previous instructions and have a fatal error during the update. Obviously had a back up but backing up from 2.5 version over a 3.x version, well that isnt going to work unless I delete the entire website and try and reinstall from scratch (that was something I did not know).I am leaving this as a last resort option to get dolcevia.com back up. Hostgator will reinstall a backup from their servers. I hope that will go ok because everything is now offline for the past 12 hours.

Hi Elisabeth,

I don't understand why your website is offline if you upgrade on a backup or copy!?

The error you have reported is a known Joomla issue but sadly the solution which has worked for many in the past hasn't worked for you. Maybe search for more resolutions.

Personally and from experience I can tell you that upgrading from J2.5 to J3.x has not given me problems as long as I uninstall as much as possible first. Nonumber extensions, rsfirewall etc. etc. Basically any extension that can be re-installed after the migration.

We have not had any other reports of F2C issues which does make me believe there is another problem. All I can say is check your Joomla 2.5.28 integrity as much as possible before the migration.

Patrick

Hi Elisabeth,

Thank you for the feedback and glad to know that Form2Content isn't creating the problems.

Caching of old JS on the same domain can cause the issues you describe. Clearing all cache, sessions! both server and client side is very important. Also check your .htaccess which might have option for gzip/retenion time etc.. Temporarily switch this off while developing.

Patrick
