Hi, I need to upgrade a j2.5.28 with f2cpro 4.9.0 website to a j3.41
All the extensions are up to date but, for a reason I've not been able to understand, the joomla automatic upgrade doesn't work and the final result is a blank page.
Installing from an up to date backup, I've tried numerous time disabling extensions one by one but no way.

So now I'm trying to begin with a clean j3.41 with f2cpro 6.10.0 and so I need to transfer content from the j2.5.28.

First issue, when trying to import f2c content type the result is :
The version of your component (6.10.0) and the version of the component that exported the Content Type (4.9.0) are incompatible.

Is there a way to do it ?
thanks

Hi Marc,

Glad you got it to work but I don't understand the issues. So far you are the first who has let us know of issues while upgrading from J2.5 to J3.x. Of course we like to always make sure things work but if we can't reproduce and no one else has any problems it's difficult for us to know if this is a unique situation or if it is a structural problem.

I also don't know the benefit of using a 3rd party upgrade mechanism while the normal Joomla one, as far as I am aware does the job. This also makes it more difficult for us to know if something else is causing the problem.

Anyway, we will keep an ear out for people experiencing similar problems. Enjoy all the extra features in F2C for Joomla 3.

Regards,
Patrick

It's ok now, I've been able to upgrade but it was not so easy…

for the record :
- strip all the installed 3rd party extensions except f2c
- install akeeba cms update (maybe not needed but it's more informative on the ongoing process)
- error 1062 with the table xxx_content_types
- copy the table xxx_content_types from a freshly installed j3.41
- replace the table xxx_content_types from the j2.5.28 site with the J3.41's one
- go to extensions/manager/database and fix the errors
- go to extension manager/discover and install all
- install f2c for j3
- and so on…

not really an "automatic" process.

Thanks anyway for your advices

OK, so you want to use it as an alternative. No that's not possible because there are a huge amount of differences in data.

I suggest you make a backup of your old website, strip everything except F2C. Than upgrade the normal Joomla way. Than also upgrade F2C. After that you have compatible data for import/export.

PS, I have upgraded many websites. The best is to strip as much as possible before the upgrade. Most often you can easily re-install 80% of your extensions. Also make sure you are using tthe default backend template... otherwise it might not work.

Last, a blank screen isn't blank. Switch on error reporting and SEE what's causing the issue.

Good luck!

Patrick

If the upgrade doesn't work there can be many reasons but with a fair amount of guarantee I can say that F2C isn't one of the.

I don't say that.
But I've not been able to upgrade this way and I can guarantee you that I've tried hard…

So, no hope from the xml import/export ?

Hi Marc,

I don't understand your issue. You do not need import/export to upgrade from J2.5 to J3.x!

Upgrade Joomla using the normal upgrade mechanism and than run the F2C installer for J3.x. And you are done :)!
