F2C version 5.6.0
Joomla 3.9.1

Hi, I have come across the following issue and am wondering if you could point me in the correct direction .

I have installed F2C lite and set it up correctly, I think!
Everything works as it should, from the admin I can make articles and they show up in the blog as expected with correct formatting etc.
When I crate a menu item to the F2C article manager, it renders properly on the front end.
However, when I click on the 'new' article button the browser responds with an error.

This page isn’t working forte.expert redirected you too many times.
Try clearing your cookies.
ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

I have cleared the cookies as suggested and tried in 3 different browsers, but still the same.

I search for this error via google and the next suggestion was to check the syntax of my htaccess file. which seems ok.

So, I wonder if it something to do with F2C?

Do you have any ideas as to what is going wrong?

Regards, Brendan

Hello,

Here's the update on how this issue was resolved:

At first there was the Route66 component/plug-in that was causing routing issues. After disabling this plug-in, the page in the front displayed, but still with no fields and a javascript error.

In the menu-item configuration no Content Type was selected (it was set to Show all Content Types). After selecting a Content Type for the menu-item, the page worked.

best,
Julien

Hi Brendan,

This sounds like a sef/htacces or seo plugin issue.

Do you use any seo plugins? Can you test with sef url switched off?

regards,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the quick reply.
You beat me too it!...I too think it is a url issue because if I enter in the non seo url
/index.php?option=com_form2content&task=form.display&view=form&layout=edit&id=&Itemid=162

it works fine.

But the url generated by the button on the F2C article manager page returns
/add-a-review/article/new

which will not work.

I don't have anything other than Joomla's url rewriting active on the site.

regards, Brendan

At the moment the links don't do much. How is your ACL set? Is public allowed to add? Can you provide link to the F2C article manager?

Yes, public can add, but nothing else. This is really only for my use because the link to the F2C article manager is from a hidden menu item.
You can find it here : /add-a-review

I can't disable the seo friendly urls because so much else stops working.

You made a forward from /add-a-review/ to /add-a-review/articlemanager ... that is creating the re-direct loop

Hi Patrick,
that URL was created by F2C

the add-a-review is the menu alias from the hidden menu, that points to the F2C article manager option in the menu item type field.

then the url /add-a-review/articlemanager was automatically generated upon save.
When I entered in forte.expert/add-a-review to the browser url bar, it automatically takes me to /add-a-review/articlemanager

Please give the alias a different name as the root is the same as the content type name (used by F2C to create a sef url) so double URL's ...

I changed the menu alias to 'review' but it makes no difference there is still a loop going on.
Unless you are talking about a different alias, but I don't know where to find the components alias.

Sorry, I am not an expert :(

Out of interest I tried making a new menu item, from the main menu, but again the article manager rendered properly, but the new button returned the same error.

OK, did some checking. When you click on NEW there is suppose to be a link like this, even if SEF is enabled:

?option=com_form2content&view=form&layout=edit&projectid=3&Itemid=159

Just to make sure. Have you checked with admin access in front-end so we know it's not an ACL issue?
Are you using any overrides for the submission form?
Last, can you see any JS errors. There might also be a conflict.
Please read the F2C documentation before asking questions! Thank you if you've done so ;)

Hi

to answer your questions....
OK, did some checking. When you click on NEW there is suppose to be a link like this, even if SEF is enabled:

?option=com_form2content&view=form&layout=edit&projectid=3&Itemid=159

..... yes I get that when it works, but sometimes I also get, /review/article/new/ ...... see below.

Just to make sure. Have you checked with admin access in front-end so we know it's not an ACL issue?

.........It does not seem to make any difference, I tried both and the results were the same.

Are you using any overrides for the submission form?

........ no

Last, can you see any JS errors. There might also be a conflict.

...... there is an error but it is a 404 for a tick.png image that articlemanager is supposed to load, but there is no file for it.

Ok, I have been doing some digging as much as I can.....

I think it may be some kind of caching/cookie issue....

if I go to /review the article manager renders fine, then if I click on the NEW button the url changes to ...

/index.php?option=com_form2content&task=form.display&view=form&layout=edit&id=&Itemid=162

and returns the loop error and fails to load the page.

... then if I click the reload button, a drop down appears saying reconfirn form submission, I click continue and the page reloads. At that point it briefly loads articlemanager then loads the article creation page. maybe 1/2 a second later.

It seems to make a difference if I clear the browser history as well, but the results are not consistent.

I am using PHP Version 7.2.13 if it helps in anyway.

update........

Interestingly, if i create a url menu item with the link... /index.php?option=com_form2content&task=form.display&view=form&layout=edit&id=&Itemid=162

Nothing happens other than the error page, but as soon as I unpublish the url menu page the other hidden menu item (/review) starts to work again. but still sporadically with various refreshes and brower history deletes.

update......
On the occasions I can access the create article page, in the frontend, none of the 'save' buttons do anything. Yet they work fine in the backend.

Hi Brendan,

I noticed the last too which makes me think there is a JS conflict. Also have you emptied your menu trash? Can you also try doing a reinstall of Form2Content (DO NOT uninstall first, DO make a backup)? Last thought, can you link the Protostar template to the F2C menu item? That way we can verify it's not a template thing.

If this fails can you give me back-end admin access? It's either something exotic or something stupid ;)

Regards,
Patrick

Good Morning Patrick,

I think it is going to be one of those 'exotic' ones!

I rebuilt all menu items and then checked for trashed menus, but there are none.

I then backed up, and reinstalled F2C over the top, and rechecked. Again no change as to the operation of F2C. But, there is a bug on the way Joomla install from web works with your software. If I try install from web it returns an error saying that it cannot find the install package. If I download from your site and upload to install it works fine.

I then set a 'test' menu item in the top menu linked to F2C article manager using the protostar template, still no change, the errors are still there.

However, a new progression. If I click on the 'New' button in article manager thats loaded in the Protostar template, I still have to reload several times as before, but when the new article page appears, it is blank apart from the top and bottom row of buttons (ie nothing rendered in between). There is now a clue though, because in this situation there is now a js error shown in console.....

Uncaught ReferenceError: Form2Content is not defined
at validation.js?49143bb84bc20f311933417259569848:1

I think, at this point, your offer of having a dig around in admin is the next logical step.
So, please let me know how I can send you the login privately.

Hi Brendan,

OK am a bit surprised (as I asked about seo/sef plugins before). You have several plugins installed that add/edit/influence scripts. You have a SEF router component with plugins installed and you have a Google structured data component abd cookie control ...... all of which can cause the above issue!

I simply switched off the route66 plugins and already the the NEW button worked. The next issue is with saving and closing. I can see the scripts are activated but the article isn't saved.... now with all your extensions installed this is most likely a JS issue.

I also notice that there is CSS influencing the layout of the F2C form (I switched it to default protostar). This means that there is stuff loaded that shouldn't be. I believe from some other form component.

PLEASE. Joomla is not plug n'play! Remove all stuff you don't use and add one at a time while testing! Do you need the route66 sef component?

Regards,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

To answer your questions,

OK am a bit surprised (as I asked about seo/sef plugins before). You have several plugins installed that add/edit/influence scripts. You have a SEF router component with plugins installed and you have a Google structured data component abd cookie control ...... all of which can cause the above issue!

..........................
The Route 66 component is there because it is great at optimizing the articles SEO (because of its Yoast component) it's also beneficial as things like conical links can be added. I was not aware of it giving a problem as far as URLs are concerned as I do not use the URL rewriting side of the component. The GSD component is there for obvious reasons, but as I understand it, it just adds JSON code to the items selected for microdata. I didn't think it could influence any other component. Same with the cookie control. I use these softwares in other websites, seemingly without problems.
...........................
I simply switched off the route66 plugins and already the the NEW button worked. The next issue is with saving and closing. I can see the scripts are activated but the article isn't saved.... now with all your extensions installed this is most likely a JS issue.
....................................
Ok, so I will try isolating them and see what happens. Because this site is essentially very simple and basic I made a conscious effort to not install anything that was not necessary, as I thought. I am obviously wrong, but it is strange as I have been using Joomla for a while and have other sites with far more clutter, yet no problems with stuff not integrating and playing nicely.
...................................

I also notice that there is CSS influencing the layout of the F2C form (I switched it to default protostar). This means that there is stuff loaded that shouldn't be. I believe from some other form component.
.......................
Yes, there is another form component installed. As they probably use very similar css classes that would explain the layout. I am not too worried about this, as it will only be I who uses the form submission screens, or clients under my direction. But the layout is not so bad when the site template is used as that CSS takes over.
........................
PLEASE. Joomla is not plug n'play! Remove all stuff you don't use and add one at a time while testing! Do you need the route66 sef component?

.........................
This is the first time I have had problems like this, where components don't play nice with each other. I could possibly remove route66 as the content of the site is essentially finished and therefore is now redundant. Thjere are other plugins I can use for conical links etc.
.......................

Now you have set me on the right path I will do as you suggest until I can find the best combination that fulfills my requirements.

Thank you so much for your time in this matter, I will let you know how I get on.

Regards, Brendan.

Hi Brendan,

Some remarks to help you out.

- Most SEO component have "skip" functions as they don't provide their own plugins for all extensions. (few extensions create their own URL's so that's why you might not have noticed before)
- Cookie control can actually block JS
- Your different script plugins can load JS on pages that is unnecessary (and change order that can be an issue too)
- The form component should only load css/js on pages that have the form, and use CSS prefix to prevent style conflict

I have been using Joomla since Mambo, conflicting plugins have gotten much better but for true performance and control the fewer the better.

PS I will also continue to test but have ha no other reports of this issue yet. Doesn't mean there can't be a bug of course ;) .... and I use F2C Pro all the time so don't have as many test environments for F2C Lite.

Patrick

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the clarification.

Being brutal I have unpublished ALL plugins except the core Joomla ones, and set the template fully to protostar.
The article manager now works and the 'new' button works. The layout is better!
But, click on save, and the 'new' article appears to be saved as the page reloads, but when I check in article manager there are no new articles created. Also, if I click on 'save &close' the page reloads to the 'new' article page rather than another.

Feel free to go have a poke around if you like, but I don't want to leave it like this for long as the site is live.

I am going to try a new install of joomla, f2c and my template creator (although I wont use it to actually make a template) on local host to see what happens.

I'll let you know what happens in a while.

Hi Brendan,

Thanks for the update. I had noticed the same and also added some extra permissions in F2C for public to see if that would solve it. Do let me know the outcome, it will help a lot!

Ok, back again.

As I mentioned, brand new install of Joomla 3.9.1, brand new install of f2c 5.6.0 plus an install of template creator ck (which I always install on every site I make. But, not used in this instance)
Default protostar template

And, on clicking the 'new' button, the new article page is loaded but with NO content between the upper and lower row of buttons.

There is also now an error message:

Notice: Undefined index: projectid in C:\wamp64\www\f2c1\components\com_form2content\models\formbase.php on line 209

I am not sure if that message is because I did not do something with f2c, that I should have. When I installed f2c I just went with the demo templates included with f2c and created a new menu item to point to the f2c article manager.

There is also the same error message in console as before.

Uncaught ReferenceError: Form2Content is not defined
at validation.js?49143bb84bc20f311933417259569848:1

Just to exclude template creator ck, I uninstalled it and retested, but the problem remains.

Do you want me to upload this, new (virgin) site to a subdomain for testing?

Regards, Brendan
