Again, I can create an article in the front end while logged in to my Super Admin account, but regular users, who could do so in v. 6.16.x now get the "value in 'title' field is required" error.

Sorry for doing this piecemeal, but another factor just occurred to me - I have a default title set in the content manager, but do not have it showing on the submission form, as the title should be fixed. I don't know if the form should be shown along with the error message or not, but a screen shot of the error message and two sets of buttons, which is the appearance after trying to save, is attached.

I've now tried changing the title field to required:0 in the database with no change in results. In the Content Type manager, I switched "Use Submission Form Template" to NO and tried both with and without showing the title field in the front end. Still getting the "title field required" error. Again, I can submit a form successfully as Super User, but not as a regular registered user.

WHEW! I found the culprits. It was a permissions issue, but one which didn't show up in earlier versions with the same forms, and it has nothing to do with the title field. "Edit state own" was set to Not Allowed at the component permissions level.

Unfortunately, that doesn't solve the problem completely. The form can't be saved if the user group of the author is not allowed to edit state own. I have defaults set to "published" and "not featured" and would like to not allow the users to change those.

I don't remember having to mess with those settings in previous versions.

It should be possible. We will check. I believe Joomla did mess with some permission structures.

Sorry to reopen this thread, but apparently 6.17.4 does not completely fix the problem. Users can now create and save articles, but when trying to reopen and save an existing article, the error message:

Warning
Invalid field: state
Invalid field: featured

Pops up. I can fix this by allowing users to edit state, but I don't want to give them that option. Edit state own was already set to yes.

Just to check because I don't have the issue (yet). You are not using a template override for the form which still has those fields?

No overrides, but I may have found the issue. Edit state was set to denied, but edit state own was allowed. When both are set to denied the error seems to have gone away. I may have created the setting when trying to get around the earlier bug.

I didn't change the permission - Registerd users and authors are allowed to edit own for articles. Is there any other place it needs to be set?
