YES. The user crops the large image and the thumb can be created automatically. Of course it should be in the same ratio of the large image since you crop once.

PS. Please always add F2C & Joomla version numbers. This answer is not applicable to Joomla 2.5 for instance.

Hi, yes this all works, but user have to manually select area for crop. When user upload bigger gallery it cost much time. I want make it simple - user only select files for upload and system automatically crop thumbnails for defined aspect ratio. Like image upload via JCE editor, or phoca gallery...

Hi Mino,

The image and gallery field already can be set to auto re-size. F2C will not auto crop but auto re-size and maintain image ratio. Just specify image and thumb size. Image size will depend on which limitation (height or width) will be hit first.

Would it be possible to set the default crop area to the best possible guess when aspect ratio is defined?

I hacked it now in your code
around line 105 in /components/com_form2content/views/crop/tmpl
I added this line :

jcrop_api.setSelect([0,0,8000,8000]);

it's messy but works , even with aspect ratio checked.

this way people who don't really have the time or patience to crop every image they upload just need to press the crop button and they'll have a decent result.

if you're really courageous you could even calculate optimal w/h/center so the crop area is always the center part.

edit : well I thought it worked, and it did for a while, but now this line doesn't seem to have any effect. Back to the drawing board then....

I checked the code again and noticed that there are 2 locations. One in the administrator folder and one in the main components folder.
Now it works.
I would appreciate if this is somehow included in the next release.
