Hi there, I'm trying to figure out if there's a possibility to show a tab created by Fields & Filters (http://www.kextensions.com/fieldsandfilters) in F2C Article manager. This plug-in/component allows us to filter the articles we make to pre-defined variables. Now we have to save the F2C article, open it in Joomla article maneager, activate the radiobuttons (variables) and save again. Would be awesome if this could be done in F2C!

Hi Remco,

This might be possible but there are some things to consider.

F2C article manager isn't com_content (even though it might look like it). This means that if the extension is activated there isn't a relation between the F2C data and the generated Joomla article without extra coding.

This means that I think both extensions need to be updated. F2C to allow for the display, and Fields and Filters for activation and relation. I think we can look at activation although the front-end of F2C will be more challenging since it becomes a question of where to show it... which means extra work :(

I think there might be a better solution. You can make a custom F2C plugin which maps the choices to the Fields and Filters plugin DB.... nice and clean :)

Patrick

Hi Remco,

I have a question out of pure curiosity. What is the benefit of combining Form2Content and Fields and Filters?

@ Patrick: Thanks for looking into this matter! Is there documentation how to make such a F2C plugin or do you know developers who can do this for us?

@ Pieter-Jan: Fields & Filters is the only extension we can find able to filter joomla articles the way we want them to be filtered (like Magento). The combination with F2C is only because we think this extension is great for inexperienced Joomla users. If we are able to combine these two, the users can handle everyting in F2C Article manager. If not, they need to apply the filter choices in Joomla article manager!

Hi Remco,

I'm a software developer and long time user user of Form2Content. I am always in close contact with the Form2Content development team and develop custom fields and plugins on a regular basis myself. So I could probably develop whatever you need.

There may be other options though. Either with a combination of vanilla Form2Content in combination with any of the plugins already available or with Form2Content Search though. If you didn't take a look Form2Content Search yet, you should. I assume you already did though, in which case I'm curious to learn why it doesn't meet your needs.

Before being able to pick the right solution, it's important to know exactly what you need though. Not in terms of Form2Content or Fields & Filters, but conceptually. I have no experience with either Form2 & Filters or Magento filters, so I'm not quite sure which functionality and user experience you are aiming for.

If you think I can be of help, get in touch with me directly: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Hi Pieter-Jan,

Sorry for the late response! F2C Search only offers dropdown and we need to filter the Joomla articles with multi select 5 fields containing 5-10 values (direct update during selection - ajax). The only component I could find in the last 3 years who could do that is Fields & Filters.

Remco

Hi Remco,

There is limited documentation in the colour lookup field. The person with the most experience in making custom fields for Form2Content is Pieter-Jan.
