I would really like this small change:
To restrict a users use of Tags, so he can only use tags of a certain category.

<blockquote>REASON</blockquote>:
I use Tags to mark articles by county - but I also use other tags, that user shouldn't be allowed to use.
I want user to be able to select the appropriate Tag - but ONLY from the country tags. Therefor I have created a Tag called Country anf then all categories like "Denmark", "USA", "Italy" etc. are children of this Country tga.
But F2C doesn't offer to restrict user to the childres of Country, so he can use any Tga he likes - including the ones that only I should have access to.
Because of this it will be possible for user to add for instance "Review" as his Country.

Hi Patrick

Clearly there is always the option to develop it or have somebody do it. I do know some PHP, but I'm not very familiar with programming for Joomla. On the other hand it is probably not that important, though it would be a nice feature, at least for me.

I fully understand your priorities though, so I'll see if I can find a way to go around it.
As tags can be nested, it might be possible to set up several sets of identical tags, just with different parents, and use Joomla ACL to control it - not sure if it will work, but it might be worth a try.

Poul

Hi Poul,

Is limiting tag categories possible in Joomla itself?

As far as I'm aware we only load the tag function via the Joomla framework. In other words, F2C doesn't get "involved" in the tagging options.

Patrick

Hi Patrick

You are partially right. Perhaps I am using Tags for something they cannot be used for - though they should.

The thing is that my users should only be restricted to the country tags in this form - but in another form they will need to be able to acess for example "Review", buit NOT the country tags.
So I really would like to do this on a per form level.

So for my purpose the ACL settings are not sufficient.

Poul

Hi Poul,

OK, I understand what you want but don't know how to accomplish this.

It might be possible to make an override for the tag component and add this feature (i.e. depend tag selection on the form). The other is an option to create your own Form2Content tag field and add the feature to that.

Anyway, both ideas are custom jobs needed to be done by a programmer who knows Joomla.

Last option is us developing it. I don't see this feature (limit tag categories by F2C Content Type) as something we will develop (soon). There are simply too many other feature wishes who serve a larger audience. On occasion we do develop commercially but I don't know how important it is. I would also need to speak to the programmer since I know he has little time already (and is currently on holiday).

Regards,
Patrick
